He’s been very successful in many areas of business.
And he definitely knows internet marketing inside out.
In fact, some of today’s names attended HIS seminars and looked up to him a decade ago for his expertise even back then!
He mentioned one thing to me that I wanted to pass along.
He has found that in any of his businesses (including his online efforts), back when he didn’t know “everything” and kept things simple are when he had remarkable successes.
His best month was just under $5 million (in one month).
How he generated that was based on a very simple business model. He didn’t get in his own way trying to make things fancy.
And I agree.
While my numbers pale compared to his, when I first got going… I did something VERY simple but it worked very well.
My model was completely different then his, but the point is, it was stripped down, raw, basic, simple.

What I did was SIMPLE:
I wrote a report that was content packed (including videos).
I made it valuable AND attention grabbing.
I then posted it onto a basic webpage as a DIRECT download.
No optins, no upsells, no memberships, no crazy monetization ideas and detailed funnels. No fancy affiliate tactics. Nothing.
Just a content rich, attention grabbing report as a DIRECT DOWNLOAD.
Because visitors could read the report right away for free without needing to optin, it got talked about. I saw it talked about in forums even.
That turned into a fair bit of free traffic… plenty of readers and a quick $2400 (approx) in commissions that I then earned from the resources and affiliate links referenced in the report.
I later took that same report and offered “re-branding” rights to my then list of about 300 (yes 300!).
I figured since I was earning $2400 in commissions from giving my report away, others might want to rebrand it and make that money too. Of course, my benefit was also the name branding I achieved. But others quickly had a way to do exactly what I was doing…
In about 12 hours of releasing the branding rights option to my whopping list of 300, I had made $800.
None of those numbers are impressive, I’m sure, but this is going back YEARS to my first days. They were numbers that I was happy with.
Think about if I tried to over-complicate it for myself. Would I have gotten it live? Would I have seen these results?
Simplify your process and just get it live for marketing…

And I’m odd, in many ways. One of those oddities is that the only real “holiday” worth celebrating in my eyes is a birthday. It celebrates having been born (ie: life). And that’s pretty damn cool. So I’m BIG on birthdays.
But I’m not big on materialistic things (or dust collecting clutter as I call it).
I’ve been chewing on what I “want” for my birthday.
And I’ve come to one very obvious realization… I want a new milestone, a new level of accomplish, a new piece of personal-pride. And THAT is a $100,000 NET PROFIT in 30-days month.
Since my birthday is September 27th which is the end of the month, I want to be able to appreciate having hit a new landmark.
(While I have GROSSED over $100k in as little as a week, I’ve NEVER had a personal net month in the 6-figures).

What a simple business model that now has an infinite number of copycat’s popping up…
Build a mailing list of users, segment that list based on geographics, find local area high-value coupon offers that are only valid if an X minimum number of users in that area purchase the coupon.
It’s like customized Costco shopping.
So kudos to the guys and gals at GroupOn… very simple model but VERY effective.
However, their unsubscribe page is my favorite part. (I subscribed to Group On merely to “spy” on them).

Here’s how David takes “affiliate recruiting” and “Jv partner recruiting” and turns it from solicitation to a customized SERVICE.
David and I just spoke for 35 mins as he interviewed me to find out about my audience / niche, types of products I normally promote, how I like to promote and what kind of offers I’d want to hear about that best match my needs.
We covered the types of courses that I simply wouldn’t mail for, which ones I’d happily want to hear of and my various criteria.
He’ll now bring me (as he does for select other partners) a very close match or exactly the types of offers that I’d be excited to refer my audience to.
So instead of a blanket approach of “can you sell my Square Peg”, he matches the many different offers from qualified vendors up with active affiliates.
