“His punching strength and volume is greatly improving…”
“He’s open to learning…”
That’s my boxing coach and the assistant coach talking about me from last night’s training.
Out of the 2 statements I over-heard, the “open to learning” is the one I SMILED at.
As you may remember, I started boxing over 2 months ago.
I didn’t know how to skip … I was sloppy and awkward. My punches were weak, and had zero technique. I couldn’t block shots efficiently.
Now, a little over 2 months into it and I’ll agree that I can see a lot of improvements…
The bag rattles nicely when I punch it. The skip rope is familiar. Cardio is increasing.
And these days I’m already sparring (practice fighting)… I’m still pretty terrible at it, but I can hold my own.
I credit the improvements to the training I received but also my willingness to learn and implement everything I’m being taught.
I’m immersing myself more and more in it…
Which is precisely what I did when I had to make the transition from the bar-star minimum wage cook to the world of business and creating my own inc*ome…
I was open to learning and quick to implement what I learned.
I tried to eat, breath and live the world I wanted to become part of (self-employment, being financially successful etc).
And 6 years later, some might say I’m there. I doubt that “I’m there” since I keep moving the “there” line but yes a lot has changed.
Interestingly, my assistant boxing coach, started his boxing adventure 6 years ago (around the time when I started my financial/wealth goals). That’s when he was the new guy. Now he has cardio like the bionic man, is a very patient and efficient fighter and of course, is an assistant coach.
Small, CONSISTENT, gradual improvements over time add up to a lot.
For any of your goals, the reminder is an important one, that it does NOT happen overnight and it DOES start with the first steps in the right direction.
