This isn't exactly X-Files or CIA stuff, but what I'm about to show you here normally stays "behind the curtains"...

   I bet you didn't know that:

   
  (Some) Network marketing companies sell their inactive distributors' contact information. Not ALL companies but certainly plenty of them do. So if you once joined a network marketing opp but your account became inactive, one way the company can get additional big profits is by selling your information. These sales happen behind closed doors and only "top level" guys even know about it.

NOTE: The above is common practice with all sorts of businesses (your phone company, internet provider, etc). And it does NOT mean that you're particular MLM company takes part in the above practice. Though lead sales is plain smart business, the next 2 scenarios are far more common.

   
  More frequently, uplines/leaders will sell off the contact info of their inactive downlines. If the company's reporting gives the leader access to contact details of non-direct sponsored, they simply run a query to find the old/expired accounts and can sell them off. Obviously that distributor has given up or quit and isn't going to do much in their downline, but is still worth cash as a "lead". Top leaders often ARE given the special access priviledges and can indeed get the contact details of anyone in their downline regardless of sponsorship tier. Again, these sales are privately handled.

   
  There are companies that run staff and software that actively go out and find new replicated distributor websites of MLM companies. So let's say you're a new distributor for XYZ Opp. And that company gives you a replicated webpage (pretty standard practice). There are services and software that can dig up thousands of replicated sites on the web and then get the contact information of the distributors who own those pages. These same services will also scour related directories and networks for contact info and compile lists of MLMers. The sales of these lists are rarely available to the public.

   These network marketer leads are often sold for top dollar. And always in private. But I hear of such deals from time to time...
