I interrupt your Superbowl Sunday to bring you this special bulletin…
Today is practically a holiday in North America. It’s the superbowl!
And, statistically, tomorrow (Monday morning) is the unofficial “call in sick to work” day with the highest rate of work-no-shows in the year.
I’m using this time though to wrap up projects and clear off my own “to do” list seeing as I’m not necessarily a footbal fan (please don’t linch me! I just never could get into football).
But I can understand the excitement that millions upon millions have for today… seeing as I’m just as excited about an elite athletic competition that’s about to hit my home city of Vancouver…
A little event called The Olympics are starting up on Friday. And I’m MANY different shades of excited for this.
Yes, it creates a cost and inconveniences locals. I’m not blind to that.
And yes, it has turned entirely commercial and isn’t what “the Olympics used to be” but that’s true of every popular event. Where there’s an audience, there’s money and there are companies finding all sorts of ways to cash in.
But beyond all that, it’s still a true champions event.
Top athletes from around the world, who have dreamed and WORKED hard and sacrificed to simply be able to participate in the Olympics now see their dreams coming true, their years of hard-work paying off.
And I’m proud to know that our city is the host for the 2010 winter Olympics.
It also has brought a new “energy” and buzz to the city… the city is waking up! Like any major city, locals here tend to be in their own world, going about the daily routines and mostly just EXISTING.
I’m seeing flags and smiles and crowds and excitement everywhere … and we’re still 5 days away from the opening ceremonies!
I think there will be thousands around the world who will be shocked to not only discover that we here in Canada don’t live in igloos… but, we don’t even have SNOW right now. It’s practically spring time here! Welcome to Vancouver!
The 17 days of the Olympics are around the corner and I’m making sure I take the entire time off from my work.
I want to mingle with the sea of tourists, I want to watch the events, check out the massive laser light shows, attend the concerts, get out to the medal ceremonies and more…
A friend told me I’m “lucky” because I get to take the 17 days off and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I see her point but that’s a bit of an insult. It had nothing to do with luck. It had everything to do with a decision to set my life up in a way where I have freedom to choose how/where I spend my time.
Afterall, taking more than half a month off “work” would never have been an option back when I was a cook … and certainly spending the amount that I’ll be spending to attend the events and enjoy those 2+ weeks … that wouldn’t have been a CHOICE either.
In the past 2 days, I picked up tickets to medal ceremonies and events that cost me more than what my paychecks used to be … and I have other events that I’ll be taking friends to as my guests because I want them to be able to enjoy more of this rare opportunity.
But am I lucky?
Not at all. It took me years of training myself and dedicating myself and working to go from the minimum wage bar-star with zero money, zero experience, zero skills to now having the ability to CHOOSE to enjoy these 17 days.
* Of course… the real reason I just said all that is to have YOU think about how you want to direct the rest of your years. *
It’s not an overnight process but are you taking efficient steps in the right direction to be able to soon say “I have a lot of freedom of choice in my life” or will you continue to miss out on rare opportunities and the chance to REALLY experience life?
It’s sad to say but I’m going to have more good times in just half of February than most people can allow themselves to have in 6 months (or more).
That doesn’t sit well with me…
I’m a big cheerleader for LIVING and experiencing life.
And this Monday evening, I’ll be sending you an email to help you move ahead faster.
It’s not a new product of mine …
It’s a package from a true “Gold Medalist” when it comes ot marketing, business, making massive money. You’ll recognize his name as he’s a veteran and has been thriving for decades … well before today’s “gurus” and “leaders” even got started.
In fact, many of today’s big names of internet marketing, the “success stories” that maybe even you look up to LEARNED from him.
For now, I’ll let you get back your superbowl Sunday …
